Foundation Stage

Welcome to Branfil Primary Early Years Foundation Stage

Our Foundation Stage Team consists of two teachers,  Miss O’Toole and Mrs Worboys; eight Teaching Assistants, Mrs Bambury, Mrs Capon, Mrs Davison, Miss Masters, Mrs White. Mrs Rushworth, Mrs Langdon and Mrs Watley.

We have 60 children in two registration classes but we share the indoor and outdoor classrooms. This gives us more space and all the staff work and learn with all of us. We have a very busy day where we are taught lots of skills and we have opportunities everyday to make choices about what we want to learn. The Foundation Stage Team play with us and watch us carefully. They make lots of notes about all the things we have been learning. We have learning journey records books and all our photos and notes are in them.

Our parents help us with our learning and they write up WOW certificates for us so we can share special learning moments that our teachers do not see. Sometimes we get WOW certificates from our teachers too if they see us do something really amazing. These are in our learning journey record books too.    Mrs Davison has helped us to cook lots of things like cheese scones and fruit kebabs. Mrs White has helped us to learn to dance and has helped us to join in with stories and books. We talk about the characters and information we have learned. Miss Masters and Mrs Capon have helped us to learn to throw and catch beanbags and played some games with us to help us get to know each other really well. This term we have been learning about Changing and Growing, Town and Country and becoming familiar with Year 1.    We have been learning skills in reading and writing. Miss O’Toole and Mrs Worboys have helped us to learn all the phonemes and how to use them to read and write words. We are learning to read and write some tricky words too. The teachers help us to write sentences about our pictures and photos. We love books. We have enjoyed learning about numbers and counting and we are becoming skilled at adding and taking away numbers using objects and our fingers. We practice these skills by playing games with our class and in small groups. The games are fun and they help us to understand what to do. Our teachers like us to explain how we worked things out. We have counting awards to encourage us to learn to count forwards and backwards.

When we have some free time, we can explore the activities that we can play with. We have role play, construction, small world, creative area, games, computers, programmable toys, snack area, puzzles, Mathematical activities, painting, malleable (play dough), writing and reading activities to select from indoors. In our outdoor classroom, we have sand, water, writing, imaginative play, construction, small world, painting and creative activities to select from.

We have been earning lots of Good Citizen certificates. We get these for being really helpful and for being kind to others. When we have collected five certificates Mr Kelly and Mrs Fisk like to see them. They are very proud of us.

We earn stars for Good Behaviour every day and these are stuck onto certificates. We take them home on Friday to show our parents how good we have been.
